ESSEX SENIORS' CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND TWO

Frinton Golf Club were presented with a tough away draw at West Essex Golf Club. The weather was mild and dry – with some early threats of light rain.

Home advantage is generally accepted to be around 1-2 holes per match – indeed with the handicaps being very similar, the Frinton team were only getting a shot in two of the eleven matches.

Frinton got off to a quick start with Peter Webster cruising to a comfortable 3-hole lead – eventually winning 4+3. The West Essex top order then exerted what should have been a match winning position – winning the next four matches to lead 4-1.

However, Frinton were not to be outdone, their middle order and tail end wagged, with Frinton winning the next five matches – Murray Northover (2+1); Alan Morrison (1up); Roger Deeble (1up); Bill Burns (6+5) and the stand out performance was Alan Rusbridge, fighting back from 3 down to win on the final hole (1up). Neil Meixner held firm to gain the only half in the match.

Final Match Score – West Essex 4.5 – Frinton 6.5.

The greens are a little softer after 18mm of rain last Friday, so you are more likely to leave a pitch Mark. Many thanks .
