The weather couldn’t have been better when John Harding hosted his Captain’s Day at Frinton Golf Club on Saturday.
It was a 4BBB event, and the scores reflected the fine conditions. The duo of Brian Foskew and Gus Rusbridge won it with an amazing 47 points. Second place went to Stuart Grimwade and Peter Outtridge with 44 points. Three pairings scored 43 points, with third awarded on count back to Harry Sanderson and Bob Newton. Over on the Kirby Course, Keith Pryke and Andrew Hunter were the winning team with 51 points.

It was a different story for the ladies at their Spring Meeting. The first players out were greeted by drizzle and high northerly winds. But the conditions didn’t dampen spirits, especially for Louise Wood who was the overall winner with 39 stableford points. Sarah Fryer was top of the first handicap division with 34 points. Lynda Boland was just behind Wood in the second division with 32 points, and Marie Gibson was awarded first on count back in the third division with 30 points.

In the afternoon Texas Scramble, the winning team was made up of Mary Johnson, Lynne Smith, Jan Harrison, and Annabel Brejon. A delicious supper of James’ filo pastry pies capped off a day filled with fun and laughter.

The Juniors played for the Sabine Cup on the Kirby Course on Saturday. Alfie Waters won it with 42 points. Alex Hazell was in second place with 41 points, and Chelsey Duffy came in third with a score of 40.

Unfortunately, FGC Thornton cup team succumbed to a very strong and young Enfield team on their own course, losing 11.4.
Although at times it looked as if it was going to be a tight game, sadly quick and tricky greens proved to be our undoing - but still - good fighting performances from the boys helped keep the score-line more acceptable.
