Frinton’s Harris Bowl team had a good week, winning both of their round robin matches. First they hosted Lexden Wood GC in the fourth of five matches last Monday. Caroline Gard was first out and won 4/3, closely followed by Donna Oliver who came in with a 3/2 win. Third out was Deborah Tanner who won on the last green after her very good opponent went into the ditch. Karen Wright and Angela Vaughan were the last two out and both were beaten by very experienced opponents.
And then on Sunday Yvonne Davies, Michelle Lawton, Deborah Tanner, Sheran Harding, and Sandra Balderston all won their matches for a fifth and final victory.
The ladies played for the Flatau Cup on Tuesday, a medal event. Michelle Lawton had another good day, taking home the trophy with her score of 69. Marie Ellie finished second with 73, and Vice Captain Jemma Jackson’s 74 put her in third place.
The busy Frinton golf weekend kicked off with Michael Gates hosting the ever-popular Headway Essex Charity Day on Friday, a 5-man Texas Scramble. The winning team was made up of Mike Donnelly, Paul Roberts, Martyn Haines, Paul Cook and Reg James with a score of 55.8. The best mixed team was Yvonne Davies, Jemma Jackson, Mark Baker, David Baker and Simon Martin-Redman with 60.4 nett. And Claire Vaughan, Angela Vaughan, Gill Wilson, Marilyn Clarke and Angela Low were the best ladies team with 61.1.
It was sunny but very windy on Saturday for the annual Boudica Challenge Bowl between Frinton, Clacton, Colchester, Harwich & Dovercourt, and Braintree. The format was mixed greensomes. The Frinton team came out on top, winning it with 144 points, just ahead of Clacton’s 143. The best Frinton score was achieved by the 2 Captains, Rob Long and Yvonne Davies with 37 points.
