As the nights close in, the season at Frinton GC is winding down. The final of the Tony Williams Salver was played last week. Itís a knock out competition between the best 8 pairs from the Bob Turner foursomes. Harry Sanderson and Peter Irwin won it, beating Nigel Jackson and Simon Martin-Redman 3&1.

In the ladies stableford this week, Caroline Gard was the winner with 34 points, a good result in the stiff northerly wind. Val Nicholls came in second with 32 points. And Audrey Joshua continued her fine form, coming in third place on count back with 31 points, just ahead of Sheila Attrill.

2016 major competition winners came together on Sunday to collect their salvers, plates and various other trophies. The prize table was groaning with the magnificent collection of silverware, some of them well over 100 years old.

James Hide was named Club champion for 2016, and he also won some other competitions.
Hamish Stubbs, Harry Sanderson and Peter Irwin were also big winners.
Vince McAuley broke the record for coming in second.
Lily Taylor was present to hear that she was named Girl club champion.
