The Captain and Committee are very proud of one of our juniors, 14 year old Daniel Nicholls, who today at the very difficult St Andrews Old Course was beaten 3/1 in the final of the St Andrews Boys Open 2017.
The preliminary round was a scratch stroke play event over the Eden course. The competition was open to all 17 year old juniors from around the world. 140 Juniors took part and the top 32 qualified for a match play knock out over 3 days. Daniel won the scratch stroke event with a gross score of 67 thereby qualifying in 1st place for the knock out stages. He then went on to win his first round, second round, quarter final, semi final, and narrowly lost in the final. In the semi final Daniel recorded a score of 6 under par on the actual Old Course!
We are talking about the worlds finest young players here.
In the final Daniel came up against a young Japanese tour player who had twice been the boys World Champion. Unfortunately Daniel lost the final 3/1
Needless to say Captain, Chairman, Committee and all members are extremely proud of Daniels achievement and wish him every success in the future.
Well done Daniel,
