LOTS OF GOLF ACTION AT FRINTON GC

The Vandenberg Cup competition had a full field with both gents and ladies competing in the singles stableford event. Liam Wilson took the silverware with an amazing 43 points. His handicap was immediately reduced to 7. Three men finished with 39 points, with Adam Miles awarded second on count back, with Frank Dufficy in third place. Claire Vaughan had the best score of the ladies, finishing in sixth place.

The annual match between Clacton and Frinton, the Bentley Cup was held last week. As usual it was played in great spirit with friends old and new enjoying the day. The match was halved, so Clacton retains the Cup as they won it last year.

The ladies played for the Simonds Bowl on Tuesday, a medal with a maximum handicap of 28. Loraine Motion won it in fine form on count back with a nett score of 73, ahead of Mary Strutt and Yvonne Davies, finishing second and third respectively.

Judy Taylor won the Cooper Cup, the ladies’ singles knock-out competition. She played the final against Linda Hayles.

Rosemary Rouse won the Kirby Cup, an 18-hole medal on the Kirby Course. The Cup was first presented to the Club by Jan McLellan in her captaincy year of 2007.

Not surprisingly Jack Brooker won the Lorna Farebrother 4 Club Salver with 36 points Bob Newton, who must have the best record of all the membership in this competition, came in second with 34 points. Alan Keyte was third with 33 points.

The ladies played a greensomes competition 2 weeks ago. Jane Quick and Ginny Richardson were the winning team with 34 points. Sheran Harding and Audrey Joshua were a close second with 33 points. And just behind with Mary Johnson and Joan Horner with 32.

Lady captain Marilyn Clarke won the Grannies Cup with 38 points.

The ladies Past Captains Trophy competition was played over 10 holes this year and was won by Angela Vaughan with 22 points, just ahead of Marilyn Clarke and Ginny Richardson with 21 points.

And finally the Seniors played their final home match against Braintree and after some very decisive results ran out comfortable winners by six and a half to one and a half games. This season has been one of the most successful with 24 matches played, 14 wins, 5 matches halved and only 5 losses.
