Some 44 men competed for the Courage Cup on Sunday, a singles stableford with a maximum handicap of 24. The chilly north wind made the going more difficult than usual, but none the less, Ash Long took home the trophy with a more than respectable score of 40 points. Michael Leonardi was just behind him, with 39 points. And Steven Powell was in third place with 37 points.
The ladies had a match play competition, with the Lady Captain’s team up against the Lady Secretary’s. The Lady Captain’s team came out on top, winning it 5 ½ to 1 ½.
Over on the Kirby Course, Jean Spencer won the stableford competition with 32 points. Nan Dawson was awarded second place on count back with 27, just ahead of Rosemary Rouse.
And in the Ferrets’ Qualifier, Nigel Oakley won it with an amazing 41 points, thereby reducing his handicap by one shot. Philip Townsend was in second place with 38 points, with the same handicap reduction. Three men finished on 37 points, with Tony Cox awarded third place on count back.
