On Friday evening, Sotheby’s Golf and Other Sports specialist David Neech visited the club.
His job is to travel the country valuing golf memorabilia.
He gave an 'antique roadshow' style evaluation of items members brought in.
Then after dinner he took the participants on a journey through golf club and ball history and reminiscences from his golfing life. He always played as an amateur, for many years for Herts and Kent.
He played 12 times for England. He qualified for the Open in 1962 and 1963, but missed the cut by 1 stroke both times.
Neech has another day job. He scouts young talent for the English Golf Union. His most successful find to date is Justin Rose.
