NEWSLETTER 10th August 2018

Article Published: Friday 10th August 2018 18:04:59 pm

Well, after waiting patiently, our new Club Manager, Michael Clarke (Mike) has arrived! A big welcome Mike; hopefully you have left our national defences in good hands. Mike joins us after 22 years in the army. He thought that was tough – wait until he meets some of our members! Next week he has the pleasure of playing with our Captain on Tuesday and dining with me on Wednesday! Hopefully lots of you will get to meet Mike next week. Be on good behaviour or goodness knows what military penalty will head your way.

Mike, welcome again. I personally look forward to working with you and I am certain you have lots to bring to our wonderful golf club.

Firstly, thank you all for allowing me to become a part of your club, as stated I come from a military background but don’t let that put you off.
I look forward to meeting you all in due course and I hope I am able to add to the outstanding staff you already have here.
My door is always open for anything toward the good and benefit to the club.
Thanks again,

Weekend Stableford
Some 40 men participated in a stableford competition on Sunday in hot sun and little wind. Despite the sub-tropical conditions, winner Frazier Maleary had a good score of 42 pts. His handicap was promptly reduced by 2 shots. Andy Hipkin was in second place with 39 pts. and Simon Partridge finished on third with 38 pts.

Ladies Daily Mail Foursomes
It was another scorcher when the ladies played in the Daily Mail Foursomes on their day. Lynne Smith and Chelsey Duffy won the medal format with a 79 nett. They may be eligible to go on to another round. Yvonne Davies and Lyn Lawrence were in second place with a score of 80 nett. and Angela Low and Mary Strutt were awarded third on countback with 84, just ahead of Caroline Grey and Marie Ellis.

All good practice for Frinton Golf Week, which commences with a men’s medal on Saturday.

Ladies 20s, 30s, 40, and Silvers.
Ginny Richardson had the best score of the day with 71 nett with Sarah Taylor finishing second on 73 nett. Lynda Boland took the third slot on countback from Rosemary Rouse with a 76 nett.

The Seniors have played two more ‘friendly’ matches against other clubs. Both were played at Frinton but met with different results. The team from Stowmarket adapted better than many visiting teams and inflicted the first home defeat on Frinton by 5 to 3. The next home match was against old foe Colchester and saw a return to form for the Frinton Seniors by 5 to 3. The Seniors once again were pleased to represent Frinton in the Greene King team event contested by six Essex-based clubs. The event took place at Burnham on Crouch golf club and once again home advantage was a significant factor. Eight pairs from each club played in a stableford better ball event; scoring was high with three pairs recording a score of 48 pts. Frinton finished in fourth position, only narrowly losing out to Braintree who took third place behind second placed Colchester and the victorious Burnham team, who were deserved winners. The event in 2019 will be played at Frinton and it is hoped that home advantage will once again be a factor.
