Frinton ladies played a greensomes competition last Tuesday. It was a fine day for it, warm and not too windy for a change. Mary Johnson and Angela Low were out in front, winning it with 37 stabelford points. Rosemary Rouse and Sheran Harding were in second place with 34 points. And third went to Barbara Thorpe and Debbie Tanner with 29 points.
The final of the Appleby Meyer Foursomes was played on Saturday. It’s a ladies summer knockout event. Ginny Richardson and Barbara Thorpe narrowly won it on the 18th, beating out Angela Vaughan and Sheran Harding.
Perhaps the most exciting event of the week was the Committee v. Staff greensomes competition held on Thursday in sunny and benign conditions. Battlelines were drawn early, with the staff stoking up on meat sandwiches in the clubhouse while committee members were out practising in the cold. It was a hard fought competition, but afterwards Chairman Graeme Dodds was overheard saying, ‘We got thrashed.’ The staff won it 4 ½ to ½.
